    En este capítulo se analizan tres aspectos centrales del objetivo de desarrollo sostenible 11 (en adelante ODS11) de la Agenda 2030 de las Naciones Unidas, cuyo fin es «lograr que las ciudades y los asentamientos humanos sean inclusivos, seguros, resilientes y sostenibles». El primer punto es el estudio del estado actual de las ciudades que pueblan la sociedad internacional, así como el análisis de sus principales virtudes y defectos. El segundo punto aborda cada una de las siete metas que conforman el ODS11, y que se presentan como los principales desafíos que hay que afrontar de cara a su logro, así como la interrelación y vinculación que existe entre el ODS11 y el resto de las metas y objetivos de la Agenda. En el tercer punto se refieren las principales iniciativas políticas diseñadas en el marco de las conferencias hábitat de Naciones Unidas, y otros eventos e instrumentos, que explican la evolución de las acciones adoptadas para alcanzar ciudades sostenibles, y que se han realizado desde el último cuarto del siglo xx hasta la actualidad, y que facilitan el cumplimiento del ODS11.

    This chapter analyses three central aspects of SDG11 of the United Nations Agenda 2030, the purpose of which is to «make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable». The first point is the study of the current state of the Cities that populate the International Society, as well as the analysis of their main strengths and weaknesses. The second point addresses each of the seven goals that make up SDG11, and which are presented as the main challenges that must be faced in order to achieve it, as well as the interrelation and linkage that exists between SDG11 and the rest of the Goals and Objectives of the Agenda. In the third point, the main political initiatives designed within the framework of the United Nations Habitat Conferences, and other events and tools are studied, which explain the evolution of the actions taken to achieve Sustainable Cities, and which have been carried out since the last quarter from the 20th century to the present, and that facilitate the SDG11’s compliance.
