  El periodo de Felipe V en América no ha generado hasta ahora muchos estudios respecto a los cambios introducidos en el estamento militar. Este artículo busca analizar la evolución del ejército y las milicias durante esta etapa en la América española a partir de modificaciones que trataban de incentivar la movilización de hombres, recursos y dinero. El principal objetivo es averiguar el grado de movilización y reclutamiento en las Indias a partir de la etapa inmediatamente anterior a 1700. Busca igualmente comparar las reformas introducidas a ambos lados del Atlántico, apuntando al grado de control estatal de la institución militar y sus efectos en la progresiva militarización de la América española.

  The period of Felipe V in America has not generated so far many studies regarding the changes introduced in the military institution. This article seeks to analyze the evolution of the army and militias during this stage in Spanish America based on modifications that tried to encourage the mobilization of soldiers, resources and money. The main objective is to find out the degree of mobilization and recruitment in the Indies from the stage immediately before 1700. It also seeks to compare the reforms introduced on both sides of the Atlantic, pointing to the degree of state control of the military institution and its effects on the progressive militarization of Spanish America.
