Since XVIII century, Miocene-Pliocene limestones from Almayate (Málaga) were used in historical buildings of Western Andalusian Heritage. They are sandy bioclastic limestones, with high porosity and water absorption, and low mechanical strength. These properties correspond to a low technical quality stone as building material, which should prevent its use far construction. Presently buildings made up of Almayate limestones should be treated with appropiate protective products.
