  La teor´ıa literaria contempor´anea plantea desaf´ıos complejos para el estudio del lenguaje en su generalidad, sobre todo al tener en cuenta su funci´on referencial, significado y la formulaci´on del conocimiento en un paradigma de mediaci´on. Las premisas de un lenguaje ret´orico parecen llevar a la teor´ıa al m´as profundo de los pesimismos, poniendo en duda su finalidad y orientaci´on cr´ıtica. El presente trabajo se propone investigar el car´acter del significado y la funci´on referencial a partir de la teor´ıa tropol´ogica de Paul de Man, cometido que tiene tras de s´ı la necesidad de fundamentar una teor´ıa literaria optimista en el encuentro entre figuraci´on y conocimiento. Por medio de una atenta lectura de la ret´orica de Paul de Man, el trabajo presenta una soluci´on tentativa al problema del conocimiento en el lenguaje ret´orico mediante una visi´on que entra˜na la inseparabilidad entre contenido y forma.

  De esa manera, la teor´ıa literaria quedar´ıa a salvo de ser una corriente contraria a la posibilidad de conocimiento sin traicionar sus propios postulados, como tambi´en la forma pasar´ıa a ser parte del campo de estudio de la epistemolog´ıa

  The contemporary literary theory entails complex problems for the study of language, especially in relation to their referential function, their meaning and the possibility of knowledge. The principles of a rhetorical language take the theory to deep pessimisms, questioning their purpose and critical orientation. The present work is an investigation about the meaning and the referential function of language in Paul de Man’s rhetorical theory, investigation which pursues the need an optimistic theory of literature in the meeting between figuration and knowledge. Through an attentive reading of Paul de Man’s rhetoric, the work presents a tentative solution to the problem of the possibility of knowledge within a rhetorical language through a vision that involves the inseparability between content and form. In that way, literary theory would remain safe from being contrary to the possibility of knowledge without betray of its own postulates, as well as ”form” would become part of the field of study of epistemology.
