Este trabajo pretende estudiar el debate educativo en Tenerife durante la Segunda República a través de la prensa. El objetivo es identificar los principales elementos en torno a los que giró el enfrentamiento ideológico y caracterizar las posiciones de los participantes. Las fuentes fundamentales de la investigación son los tres grandes rotativos isleños del momento: La Gaceta de Tenerife, La Prensa y La Tarde. Se han consultado también otras publicaciones como Hoy, que desapareció antes de concluir el periodo estudiado. Los cinco ejes sobre los que se vertebra este trabajo son el laicismo, el magisterio, la construcción de escuelas, la escuela única y la educación de las niñas.

This paper aims to study the educational debate in Tenerife during the Second Republic through the press. The aim is to identify the key elements around which revolved the ideological confrontation and characterize the positions of the participants. The basic sources of research are the three main newspapers of the island at that age: La Gaceta de Tenerife, La Prensa and La Tarde. Other newspapers like Hoy, which disappeared before concluding the period, have also been used. The five issues on which this paper is structured are laicism, teachers, schools building, unified school and girls’ education.
