Los genoveses se instalan en Andalucía

    Esta relación constituye un homenaje grato a la memoria del Exmo. prof. Francisco Morales Padrón. Trata de la presencia genovesa en Andalucía en que los subditos de San Jorge se instalaron tras la reconquista por las armas de los reyes de Castilla a la mitad del siglo XIII. Los genoveses ayudaron a toda la conquista castellana desde el principio, contribuyendo a la construcción de navíos de guerra que interceptaron y golpearon a los buques sarracenos a lo largo de las costas de la península española. El bloqueo del estrecho de Gibraltar para las galeras del almirante genovés Zaccaria es parte de la historia magna española. A medida que las regiones marítimas españolas dejaron libres ellas fueron elegidas para los genoveses como sede de sus intereses económicos y comerciales. Gracias a los privilegios concedidos por la Corona de Castilla los genoveses en corto plazo dominaron el mundo de los negocios desde las islas Baleares, hacia Valencia, Denia, a los puertos de Andalucía, incluidos los del reino de Granada, hasta el gran puerto fluvial de Lisboa. La posición estratégica de Andalucía, con los puertos de Sevilla, de Cádiz y de los cercanos costituyeron una base económica formidable en que dominaron por tres siglos los representantes de las más nobles familias genovesas que se transformaron en corto plazo en hombres de comercio, banqueros, hombres de finanzas, distribuidores de mercaderías valiosas en los mercados de toda Europa. Los genoveses presentes en Andalucía, gracias a sus visiones internacionales y a sus enormes recursos económicos fueron los que financiaron a los reyes católicos en la conquista de Granada, en la de las tres últimas islas libres de Canarias, incluso la gran aventura de descubrimiento del genovés Cristóbal Colón.

    This account constitutes a welcome tribute to the memory of the Ex.mo Prof. Francisco Morales Register. It regards the Genoese presence in Andalusia where the subjects of San Jorge settled the very morning after the Reconquest by the arms of the Kings of Castile in the middle of the XIII° century. The Genoese helped all the Spanish conquest from his first taking part to the construction of warships that intercepted and beat the Saracens ships along the coast of the Spanish Peninsula. The blockade of the Strait of Gibraltar by the galleys of the Genoese admiral Zaccaria is part of the Spanish grand history. As the Spanish maritime regions were released they were used by the Genoese as the chief seats for their economic and commercial interests. Thanks to the privileges granted by the Crown of Castile in the short term the Genoese dominated the world of business from the Balearic Islands, to Valencia, Denia, the ports of Andalusia, including the Kingdom of Granada, to the great river port of Lisbon. The strategic position of Andalusia, with the harbors of Seville, Cadiz and the near ones, formed a formidable economic base that was dominated for three centuries by the representatives of the noblest Genoese families, who became in a short time commercial men, bankers, men of finance, distributors of valued merchandise in markets across all Europe. The Genoese settled in Andalusia, with their international visions and their huge financial resources were the ones who financed the Catholic Kings in the conquest of Granada, in the last one of the three free Canary Islands, including the great adventure of discovery of the Genoese Christopher Colon.
