Resumen de Sedimentología de la Formación Puentellés entre Arenas de Cabrales y Panes (Estefaniense de Picos de Europa, E de Asturias)

O. A. Merino-Tomé, Juan Ramón Colmenero Navarro, Juan Ramón Bahamonde Rionda

  • The Puentelles Fm. is an upper Kasimovian (Dorogomilosky)-lower Czhelian carbonate unit that outcrops in the northern thrust units of the Picos de Europa Region (Cantabrian Mountains, E Asturias). In the sector betwen Arenas de Cabrales and Panes, two stratigraphic members can be diferentiated in this unit. Its deposition took place in a carbonate ramp developed in a shallow marine basin with limited water circulation, situated in front off the trhust units of the northeastern sector of the Manto del Ponga region. During the sedimentation of the lower member, this carbonate ramp was connected toward the North with fan-deltaic systems dominated by catastrophic flooding with carbonate provenance areas that was being deformated. This systems accumulated huge volumes carbonate breccias and conglomerates, lithic sandstones (calcithites) and lithoclastic to bioclastic grainstone-packstones, that form shelf lobes in the proximal sectors of the carbonate ramp.
