  El presente trabajo es un artículo de reflexión acerca del futuro de las ciudades atravesadas por la sociedad de consumo que incluye cuatro perspectivas: las transformaciones de la civilización, lo material de las ciudades, la cultura gastronómica y el campo del arte. Alrededor de esas perspectivas se plantean algunos de los estragos del afán por la modernización y la inclusión de las nuevas tecnologías. Se insiste en que, las más de las veces, solo se construyen ilusiones pasajeras de modernidad, enmarcadas en comprar para satisfacer. Los ciudadanos – consumidores abandonan rápidamente restaurantes, casas y formas de vida en la búsqueda de qué más hay en el inacabable menú. ¿Cuál será entonces el destino de nuestras ciudades bajo este enfoque? No se pretende dar una respuesta o solución definitiva a tan complejo interrogante, solo plantear nuevos cuestionamientos acerca de la implicación de la subjetividad y, por ende, de los sujetos en la construcción de los espacios en que viven a partir de la lectura, entre otros autores, de Armand Mattelart.

  This paper contains a reflection about the future of the cities crossed by the consumer society that includes four perspectives: the transformations of civilization, the materiality of the cities, the gastronomic culture and the field of arts. Around these perspectives some of the ravages of the desire for modernization and the inclusion of new technologies are presented. It is insisted that, most of the time, only temporary illusions of modernity are built, framed in buying to satisfy. Citizens - consumers quickly abandon restaurants, houses and ways of life in search of what else is there in the endless menu. What will be the fate of our cities under this approach? It is not intended to give a definitive answer or solution to such a complex question, only raise new questions about the implication of subjectivity and, therefore, the subjects in the construction of the spaces in which they live from reading Armand Mattelart, among other authors.
