    At the turn of the fifteenth century, the production of records of the city of Amiens (as far as its present archives reveal) underwent profound changes. Facing shifts in its institutions and tighter control from the King, the municipality renewed its practices of producing and conserving official written documents. During this gradual and lasting renewal, Amiens created new solutions, such as a register of statutes. This was coupled with carefully planned and executed innovations in adapting outdated systems to new requirements: for instance, adjusting existing conservation practices to keep the accounts and registers of deliberations, and changing the old cartulary by structuring it into three new ones.

    Au tournant des xive et xve siècles, le paysage documentaire de la commune d’Amiens tel qu’il nous est parvenu dans les archives connaît de profondes modifications. En plus de conserver plus régulièrement ses comptes et ses registres de délibérations, la ville se dote de trois nouveaux cartulaires pour remplacer l’ancien, renouvelle son registre de cens et de rentes, et fabrique un recueil de statuts. Progressive et de longue durée, cette réorganisation documentaire survient après une intervention royale modifiant les institutions et la pratique du gouvernement municipal. Durant cette période, la création de solutions neuves, comme un manuscrit rassemblant des ordonnances édictées par l’échevinage, côtoie une innovation pensée et mise en œuvre en termes d’adaptation des cadres anciens aux nouvelles exigences : ajustement des conditions existantes de conservation, aménagement du type ancien du cartulaire.
