The main morphologic, tectonic and bottom features o f the surrounding area of the Alboran Island have been determined by means of a detailed bathymetric and sonographic study. Seven types o f acoustic response of the sea bottom have been differentiated, four of them are related to outcrops of volcanic rocks, two to soft sediments and the last one to a hard sediment surface.
The main outcrop is limited by two scarps close to a E-W direction, have a sigmoide shape and is characterised by a pervasive fracturation that offset the volcanic beds. It has been differentiated two main directions: N125 and N145, and an oblique direction to the steep borders. These characteristics allow us to propose a transpressive origin, as a push-up zone, related to a E-W secondary transcurrent fault.
