In this work, Pleistocene sediments, cored in the volcanic apron south of Gran Canaria during ODP drilling Leg 157 are studied using sedimentological techniques and continuous, nondestructive core logging. Sediment types are classified, based on textural and compositional variables, as pelagic clays, gravitative muds, turbidite muds, turbidite sands, and calcareous turbidites. These sediment types also show values of GRAPE density, P wave velocity and magnetic susceptibility which may help to stablish lithologic differences downhole.
