    El ferrocarril desde su nacimiento ha sido un medio en constante transformación. Andalucía, fue pionera en España en sus primeros proyectos, aunque tuvo que esperar unas décadas antes de que se materializase el primer trazado. El impulso que tuvieron las diferentes propuestas posibilitó que en pocas décadas se vertebrase toda la región, a partir de ferrocarriles que a finales del siglo XIX llegaron a todas las provincias andaluzas. La aparición del automóvil y la Guerra Civil Española en el siglo XX tuvo como principal consecuencia la destrucción y abandono de la red, que fue atenuada con el inicio de la democracia. Las últimas décadas del siglo XX y las primeras del XXI han supuesto un nuevo impulso del medio con la construcción de nuevas líneas regionales y metropolitanas.

    The railway since its birth has been a medium in constant transformation. Andalusia, was a pioneer in Spain in its first projects, although it had to wait a few decades before the first layout materialized. The impulse they had the different proposals had made possible the vertebration in few decades of the whole región, from railroads that at the end of the 19th century reached all the andalusian provinces. The appearance of the car and the Spanish Civil War in the twentieth century had as its main consequence the destruction and abandonment of the network, which was attenuated with the beginning of democracy. The last decades of the twentieth century and the firsts of the XXI have led a new impulse of the medium with the construction of new regional and metropolitan lines.
