Chemical deposits in caves (speleothems) show a great variety of types. In this paper a new speleothems classification, based on the factors connected to their formation (genetic and placement characteristics) is proposed. Two main groups of speleothhems are considered:
subaereal and aquatic. The subaereal speleothems include 32 types, differentiated according to main acting force, water flow characteristics, spatial location and substratum type. The aquatic speleothems include 11 types and are classified according to the water temperature and mechanical energy of the water. The name, size and a brief comment of the morphological characteristics of each one of the 43 types of speleothems are included.
