La capilla de San Juan Apóstol constituyó uno de los primeros absidiolos románicos erigidos en el último cuarto del siglo XI en la cabecera de la catedral de Santiago. Su condición de parroquia y su minúsculo tamaño provocaron que en los siglos XVI y XVII sufriese reformas, pero la más importante tuvo lugar en la primera mitad del XVIII. Entonces la arquitectura, un nuevo retablo, esculturas, pinturas, y un efecto lumínico buscado, dotaron a este espacio de un ornato del que carecía.

The Chapel of Saint John the Apostle was one the first Romanesque apsidioles erected in the last quarter of the 11th century at the head of the Cathedral of Santiago. Its condition of parish and its tiny size caused that in the 16th and 17th centuries it underwent reforms, but the most important one took place in the first half of the 18th century. Then the architecture, a new altarpiece, sculpture, paintings, and a sought luminic effect, endowed this space with an ornament that until then it lacked.
