Si el palacio ha sido un espacio representativo del poder de la monarquía, su decoración pictórica también ha contribuido a ello. Las galerías de retratos visualizaban el paso de poder de unos reyes a otros garantizando así la estabilidad del reino. Aquí se estudian las imágenes regias que existían en el palacio real de Valencia en el siglo XVII. Se efigiaron a los reyes desde época medieval hasta los Borbón. En el XIX la serie cambió de ubicación y se colocó en el palacio de la Generalitat.

The palace was a representative site of the power of the monarchy and the pictorial decoration also has contributed to show it. The portrait gallery visualized the power shift of one king to other. This manner the stability of the kingdom was guaranteed. This paper aims to study the portraits that were located in the royal palace of Valencia from the seventeenth century. The paintings represent all kings from the Middle Age to the period of Bourbon. In the nineteenth century the gallery changed the location and since then, the portraits are in the palace of the Generalitat.
