Taking into account the major changes the profession has experienced in recent years, it becomes relevant to analyze the professional profile that should characterize the Public Auditor. This research reported results with regard to the comparison and analysis of the profile of the Public Auditor looked at from three proposals: The profile declared by the National Commission for the accreditation of Undergraduate Studies (CNAP), profiles declared by the Institutions of Higher Education and the profile required by the market.

Through this comparison we will identify unnecessary or obsolete, competences, or those that we believe are relevant to integrate for the construction of an updated profile, according to the concordances and dissonances detected.

The methodology used is divided into four stages: collection of information; categorization of the CNA profile; review of graduation profiles of institutions of higher education and their comparison with the CNA profile; finally an interview with key informants associated with the profession to raise the current requirements of the market.

As a result of this analysis we found that in global terms there is reasonable agreement between the CNAP profile, and the profiles of the Institutions of Higher Education and the demands of the market. But the update of this professional activity demands new skills that are necessary to incorporate, others that must be modified and others that should be eliminated.
