La música en Lorca en el siglo XIX contó con diversos intérpretes, directores y compositores que contribuyeron a dinamizar la vida social y cultural de la ciudad. Por un lado, existía la capilla de cantores e instrumentistas de la Colegiata que, junto con su maestro de capilla y organista, creaban e interpretaban música para sus cultos religiosos. Tiempo después nacieron bandas de música que popularizaron la música y la difundieron, incrementando el gusto entre los ciudadanos por esta manifestación artística. En esa centuria surgieron diversos intérpretes y compositores muy notables, entre los que había pianistas, violinistas y, por supuesto, guitarristas. Entre estos últimos destacó sobremanera Antonio Cano y Curriela, nacido en 1811 y fallecido en 1897, que a su faceta de concertista de guitarra unió la de compositor de obras para este instrumento, alcanzando fama y reconocimiento en el panorama de la música española del siglo XIX.

The music in Lorca in the nineteenth century had various performers, directors and composers who helped to boost the social and cultural life of the city. On the one hand, there was the chapel of singers and instrumentalists of the Colegiata who, together with their chapel teacher and organist, created and performed music for their religious cults. Some time later bands of music were born that popularized the music and spread it, increasing the taste for this artistic expression among the citizens. In that century several very notable interpreters and composers emerged, among whom were pianists, violinists and, of course, guitarists. Antonio Cano y Curriela, born in 1811 and died in 1897, stood out among the latter, who in his role as a concert guitar player joined the composer of works for this instrument, achieving fame and recognition in the panorama of nineteenth-century Spanish music.
