    Exponemos en este trabajo, la reconstrucción del entorno de Villaviciosa (Asturias) desde los usos de la voz «castaño». Destacamos la tendencia que marca este topónimo en relación al espacio geográfico de Villaviciosa (Asturias). La fuente principal ha sido el Catastro del Marqués de la Ensenada (Asturias); además, hemos vaciado numerosos protocolos notariales de la Edad Moderna que atestiguan este término. Toda la investigación se completa con la comparación de estas voces encontradas respecto a aquellas recogidas en diccionarios generales de español y diccionarios específicos de la llingua asturiana.

    The aim of this research piece of work has been the reconstruction environment of the municipality of Villaviciosa, one of the largest in Asturias from the meanings of the word chestnut. We highlight the meaning determined by this toponym in relation to the geographic space of Villaciciosa (Asturias). Its fundamental basis has been the Marquis of the Ensenada’s land registry of Villaciciosa (Asturias) and the notarial protocols of the time of the survey and of the Modem Age in general that attest this term. In addition, the research was completed with the comparison of the toponyms found in the Asturian-language specific and general dictionaries.
