Resumen de De la gramática universal a la gramática particular: réplica a los comentarios

Este artículo se organiza a partir de los comentarios que se le hacen al que inicia el debate, y en concreto se estructura en cuatro secciones. En la primera se recuerda el objetivo del primer artículo (presentar un serie de propuestas que ilustran como el Programa Minimista aborda la adquisición). En la segunda sección se repasan brevemente los pilares de la gramática generativa y transformacional (la hipótesis de la GU, el problema lógico de la adquisición, la tensión entre descripción y explicación, entre otros). En la tercera sección se consideran algunos temas suscitados de la aplicación de la gramática generativa a la adquisición de la lengua y se comenta brevemente la dificultad de la comparación entre enfoques que parten de supuestos distintos. En la última sección se consideran los datos que forman la base empírica de las propuestas que se presentan en el primer artículo. En esta última parte se desmiente la frecuente crítica a los lingüistas generativistas sobre su tratamiento de los datos. En el campo de la adquisición de la lengua la recogida datos es esencial y para ello se cuenta con dos métodos que se comentan brevemente en el apartado: el método longitudinal y el experimental. Se coincide aquí con la mayoría de autores sobre la falta de datos y la necesidad de obtener más.

This article is organized on the basis of the comments made to the one which initiates the debate. It is structured into four sections. In the first section the aims of the first article are reminded to the readers (to present a series of proposals which illustrate how the Minimalist Progam approaches acquisition). In the second section we briefly review the essential pillars of generative and transformational grammar (the UG hypothesis, the logical problem of language acquisition, the tension between descriptive and explanatory adequacy, among others). In the third section we consider some of the topics that arise from the application of generative grammar to the analysis of language acquisition and we briefly comment the difficulty of comparing approaches that have different departing assumptions. In the last section we consider the data that constitute the empirical basis of the proposals that are presented in the first article. In this last part we deny the common criticism to generative linguists on their treatment of data. In the field of language acquisition data collection is essential and we have two methods at our disposal: the longitudinal and the experimental methods. Here we coincide with the majority of authors in that data are insufficient and in the need to obtain more.
