  • Resumen
    • The traditional explanations of the Bαγινοχαῖμαι given by R. Much as being either a variant of Baehaemi, OHG Bēheima „Bohemians“ or as being a compound containing the well-known Germanic word *haima- „home“ as a second element and Germanic *baina- „hospitable, helpful“ as a first element have to be abandoned, because they require too much ad hoc assumptions. The Bαγινοχαῖμαι are surrounded by tribes whose names show a Celtic word as a first element or a derivational basis. So an identification of the first element bagino- in Bαγινοχαῖμαι as Celtic would seem more likely. Celtic *bagino- is derived from Celtic *bāgā- „fight, battle“ and the name Bαγινοχαῖμαι is matching the semantics of other tribe names perfectly
