La primera biografía de Miguel de Cervantes se publica en Londres en 1738. Fue escrita por Gregorio Mayans y Siscar, y fue un encargo editorial de Lord Carteret. Desde mediados del siglo XVIII hasta nuestros días se han publicado centenares de nuevas biografías cervantinas en todo el mundo. ¿Es posible escribir una nueva biografía en el siglo XXI? La respuesta es que sí, pues todavía es necesario rescatar al Cervantes hombre frente al Cervantes personaje y mito que se ha convertido en el protagonista de las biografías anteriores: una nueva biografía cervantina que sitúe a Cervantes en los fascinantes Siglos de Oro, alejándolo del mito que se ha ido construyendo alrededor de su figura desde el siglo XVIII. El autor ha dedicado tres volúmenes a este nuevo modelo biográfico sobre Miguel de Cervantes, y el artículo es un resumen de sus novedosas propuestas metodológicas.

Miguel de Cervantes’ first biography was published in London in 1738. It was written by Gregorio Mayans and Siscar, and was commissioned by Lord Carteret. From the mid-18th century to the present day, hundreds of new Cervantine biographies have been published worldwide. Is it possible to write a new biography in the 21st century? The answer is yes, because it is still necessary to rescue the Cervantes man in front of the Cervantes character and myth that has become the protagonist of the previous biographies: a new Cervantes biography that places Cervantes in the fascinating Golden Centuries, moving away from the myth that has been built around his figure since the eighteenth century. The author has dedicated three volumes to this new biographical model of Miguel de Cervantes, and the article is a summary of his novel methodological proposals
