    La instalación en Córdoba de la capital de al-Andalus fue, posiblemente, el hito más importante de la historia de la ciudad, y abrió paso a una época extraordinaria. Sin embargo, nada en el año 711 permitía presagiar este resultado y en estas líneas intentaremos mostrar algunos de los elementos que contribuyeron a ese hecho, y las funciones que desempeñaba la capital en el emirato de los siglos VIII y IX.

    The transfer of the capital of al-Andalus from Seville to Cordova was, probably, the most important time in the History of the city, one which opened the way to a great period. However, in 711 nothing allowed to foretell such a result and we will try to explain a few of the elements which contribute to the creation of the new Andalusian capital and the functions that if fulfilled in the VIIIth and IXth centuries
