Resumen de Tablillas y exvotos para mitigar el riesgo y la incertidumbre de la empresa preindustrial

  En las sociedades preindustriales, el riesgo y la incertidumbre constreñían la vida cotidiana y el desarrollo económico y empresarial. Hasta tal punto, que cuando la ciencia no permitía avanzar era habitual solicitar ayuda a la divinidad. Si la petición fructificaba, se solía agradecer mediante un exvoto: una pintura sobre una tablilla de madera o sobre tela que recreaba un momento de especial dificultad sin mucha ambición artística, pero con un gran realismo. En esta comunicación nos centramos en el comentario de un conjunto de pinturas de los siglos XVIXVIII que ponen al descubierto algunos de los principales temores de los negociantes del período y las presentamos organizadas en los siguientes apartados: temporales y otras inclemencias;

  piratas, corsarios y enfrentamientos marítimos; asaltos, bandidaje e inseguridad en los caminos.

  Nuestro objetivo es que sirvan de reclamo para captar la atención de los estudiantes de historia económica de la empresa en el desarrollo del tema dedicado a la empresa preindustrial.

  In pre-industrial societies, risk and uncertainty constrained daily life and economic and entrepreneurial development, to the extent that, when science did not allow for progress to be made, it was customary to ask the deity for help. If the request bore fruit, thanks were usually given through an ex-voto: a painting on a wooden tablet or on fabric which recreated an especially difficult moment, without too much artistic ambition involved but depicted with great realism. In this paper, we focus on the commentary of a series of paintings from the 16th-18th centuries which reveal some of the main fears of the businesspeople of the period and present them organised into the following sections: storms and other inclement weather; pirates, corsairs and maritime conflicts; robberies, banditry and insecurity on the roads. Our goal is for them to serve as an enticement designed to draw the attention of students of the economic history of business in the development of the subject of pre-industrial business.
