    La Península Ibérica durante el Paleolítico Superior no es conocida por ser considerada un centro de producción de representaciones femeninas de bulto redondo, de tipo “Venus”. Así, aunque este tipo de representaciones están prácticamente ausentes en el arte mueble paleolítico de la Península Ibérica, los hallazgos de diversas plaquitas, grabados, figurillas, etc. durante el Magdaleniense ponen de manifiesto el papel de la mujer durante diferentes etapas del Paleolítico Superior. A pesar de las distintas interpretaciones, cobra importancia la función simbólica de estas representaciones que abre un interesante debate acerca del papel de la mujer en la Prehistoria. Así, el simbolismo asociado, plantea importantes vías de investigación en relación a la ritualidad y el pensamiento abstracto durante este periodo.

    During the Upper Paleolithic, Iberian Peninsula is not known for being a center of production of feminine representations of round shape, the typical "venus" type. Although this type of representations are practically absent in the Palaeolithic art of the Iberian Peninsula, the findings of various plates, engravings, figurines, etc., in Magdalenian period, can show the role of women in different stages of the Upper Palaeolithic period. In spite of the different interpretations, the symbolic function of these representations acquires the importance that opens an interesting debate about the role of women in Prehistory. Thus, the associated symbolism raises important research paths in relation to ritual and abstract thinking during this period.
