    “De lo que no se puede hablar, hay que callar”, afirma Wittgenstein al final del Tractatus.

    Roberto Bolaño comparte esta paradoja. En el caso de Estrella distante, novela en la cual se enfocará el análisis, se restringe su habitual verbalismo dejando tan sólo unos breves pasajes donde resurge como excepción el bolañismo. Es evidente que el autor chileno sabe aprovechar las posibilidades ofrecidas por el discurso narrativo desprovisto del verbalismo pero también las agota; entonces ha de encarar el dilema, de cómo seguir hablando sin extender el texto. La solución que encuentra es introducir otro discurso que se abastecerá principalmente del reino de lo visual. Se trata de hacer funcionar un sistema mixto que va más allá de las funciones tradicionales de la descripción ecfrástica de las imágenes y de la ilustración visual de las palabras, y forma un constructo sui generis que desempeña un rol protagonista en la obra

    Roberto Bolaño shares this paradox. In the case of Estrella distante, the novel on which the analysis will focus, his habitual verbalism is restricted, leaving only a few brief passages where bolañismo resurfaces as an exception. It is evident that the Chilean author knows how to take advantage of the possibilities offered by the narrative discourse devoid of verbalism but also exhausts them; then he has to face the dilemma of how to continue speaking without extending the text. The solution he finds is to introduce another discourse that will mainly draw on the realm of the visual. The idea is to make a mixed system work that goes beyond the traditional functions of echrastic description of images and visual illustration of words, and forms a sui generis construct that plays a leading role in the work.
