La escasez de testimonios materiales conservados y la falta de fuentes documentales que ofrezcan una información directa al respecto, ha originado que la evolución histórico-constructiva de la muralla y el alcázar medieval de Bilbao sea un elemento bastante desconocido dentro de la historia de la Villa. En el presente artículo se ha efectuado un recorrido sobre las diferentes hipótesis e interpretaciones vertidas, replanteando el estado de la cuestión.

Artikulu honetan Bilboko hiribilduaren harresiztate prozesuari buruz dauden hipotesiak aztertu dira, ikerketen egoera berriz planteatuz.

The few preserved material evidence, and the few documentary sources that offer direct information on the subject, it has caused the historical evolution constructive of the alcazar and the medieval city wall of Bilbao is quite unknown in the history of the City. In the present article, different hypotheses and interpretations about these process are presented, revisiting the current state of affairs and providing new interpretative paths.
