  • Resumen
    • The present study deals with Kalinitsa, a theatrical act that preceded, as its «first, introductory act», the widely in Greece known custom of Klidonas. Inspecific, the study investigates exclusively the variations of the custom and its complementary songs, as they were performed in Stenimachos of Northern Thrace and in Adrianoupolis until the standard time limit of the end of the 19'h century and the beginning of the 20'h century. The custom is analysed along with its social context and symbols putting an emphasis on basil, which is here exploited as an erotic symbol. What follows is an analysis of the social function of the primeval songs of Kalinitsa, which constitute monuments of the age-old Thracian civilization that was developed in the wider area
