  • The author criticizes experiments in which rhesus monkey infants are separated from their mothers and subjected to isolation and stresses. It is suggested that these experiments are not only cruel, but also are ineffective as research methods for studying mental illness in humans. Details on monkey experiments by psychologist Harry F. Harlow are presented.
