Las investigaciones arqueológicas a principios del siglo xx realizadas por don Gratiniano Baches en torno a Thiar y la Vía Augusta, desencadenaron la búsqueda de material que fue guardado por diversos particulares a lo largo de las décadas siguientes. La recuperación del mismo a través de donaciones y depósitos, fue el motivo principal que determinará la creación del museo que lleva su nombre en honor a sus trabajos y aportación de los hallazgos por parte de sus herederos.
El Museo municipal, proyecta a Thiar a través de las exposiciones temporales e itinerantes hacia el exterior, al mismo tiempo que lo eleva como punto fuerte, empleando como recurso la didáctica, que llega hasta todo tipo de público, incluyendo personas en situaciones vulnerables. Su importante labor social junto con su hondo compromiso como referente intercultural, deja patente una propuesta cultural y turística activa, además de atrayente para el municipio de Pilar de la Horadada.

The archaeological investigations in the early 20th century by Mr. Gratiniano Baches around Thiar and Via Augusta, triggered the search for material that was lodged by various individuals over the following decades. The recovery of the same through donations and deposits, was the main reason, which determined the creation of the museum that bears his name in honor of his work and contribution of the findings, by his heirs.
The municipal museum projects Thiar through the temporary and itinerant exhibitions to the outside, at the same time as it elevates it as a strong point, using as a resource didactics, which reaches all types of public, including people in vulnerable situations. Its important social work together with its deep commitment as an intercultural reference point, shows an active cultural and tourist proposal, as well as attractive for the municipality of Pilar de la Horadada.
