O discurso epistolográfico no "De officiis" de Cícero

    A obra ciceroniana é conhecida não só pelos tratados políticos que o orador romano escreveu, mas também pela sua vasta correspondência informal. Porém, Cícero nem sempre estabelece uma fronteira nítida entre os tipos de texto que cria, misturando por vezes estratégias retórico-discursivas de diversos géneros numa mesma obra. É o que sucede no tratado De officiis, em que Cícero expõe o seu pensamento acerca da conduta a observar por um estadista e que tem por destinatário o filho, como se de uma longa carta se tratasse. Neste estudo, estabeleceremos um confronto entre as características epistolográficas típicas das cartas ciceronianas e alguns mecanismos linguístico-textuais próprios do texto epistolar que estão presentes no De officiis, tendo por objetivo compreender até que ponto o orador mistura regras discursivas da oratória com regras próprias da epistolografia, elaborando uma obra que, sendo um tratado filosófico, apresenta as mesmas marcas de interação epistolar que se encontram nas suas cartas.

    Cicero, as a writer, is known not only for the political treatises he wrote, but also for his vast informal correspondence. However, Cicero doesn’t always establish a clear boundary between the types of text he creates: sometimes he mixes rhetorical-discursive procedures of different genres in the same work. This is what seems to happen in his philosophical-political treatise De officiis. Here, Cicero exposes his thoughts on the duties and conduct to be observed by a statesman, and elaborates the text as a long letter addressed to his son. In this investigation, we will establish a comparison between the epistolographic characteristics of the Ciceronian letters and some typical linguistic-textual mechanisms of the epistolary text that are present in the De officiis, in order to understand at to what extent the orator mixes discursive oratory rules with epistolographic rules and if he actually writes a work that, being a philosophical treaty, presents the same marks of epistolary interaction that appear in his letters.
