Las Fuerzas Armadas mexicanas y su implicación en la defensa ambiental

    El conflicto que mantiene el Gobierno mexicano contra los cárteles no solo se reduce a las actividades relativas al narcotráfico, sino también a otras como el robo de combustible, tráfico y trata de personas o extorsión. Pero desde hace años también se viene alertando de la penetración de estas organizaciones criminales en actividades ilícitas relacionadas con el medio ambiente, las cuales generan importantes daños a la biodiversidad del país. La amenaza más conocida es la relativa al tráfico ilegal de totoaba (Totoaba macdonaldi) y su afección derivada a la vaquita marina (Phocoena sinus), problema que actualmente está siendo abordado por la Secretaría de Marina (SEMAR).

    Pero existen otras amenazas como la tala ilegal, sobre todo de maderas preciosas o los efectos colaterales del robo de combustible. Ante estos problemas, las Fuerzas Armadas mexicanas ya han tomado conciencia de la importancia de los problemas medioambientales y su vinculación con la integridad territorial que deben preservar.

    The Mexican government's ongoing conflict against the cartels is not only confined to activities related to drug trafficking, but also to other activities such as fuel theft, human trafficking and smuggling or extortion. However, they have also been warning of the penetration of these criminal organizations in illegal activities from many years ago.

    Related to the environment, which generate significant damage to the country's biodiversity. The best-known threat is related to the illegal trafficking of totoaba (Totoaba macdonaldi) and its condition derived from vaquita (Phocoena sinus), a problem that is currently being addressed by the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR). But there are other threats such as illegal logging, especially of precious wood or the collateral effects of fuel theft. In the face of these problems, the Mexican Armed Forces have already become aware of the importance of environmental problems and their connection with territorial integrity, which they must preserve.
