Los revestimientos textiles de la arquitectura, desde el siglo XVIII, quedaron confinados a la categoría servil de artes menores. Pero la reconsideración de la función clásica del ornamento descubrió lo inapropiado de tal relegación. Distintos pensadores del revestimiento, desde el siglo XIX, desmontaron la lógica jerárquica de las Bellas Artes y, tras ellos, las investigaciones artísticas pueden tratar los textiles como elementos fundamentales de la representación y la construcción del espacio.

Textile dressings of architecture, from the 18th century, were confined to the ancillary category of minor arts. But the reconsideration of the classical function of the decoration revealed this relegation as misplaced. Different thinkers of the coating, since the 19th century, removed the hierarchical logic of the Fine Arts. After them, artistic researches (specially, here, those focused on the Middle Ages) can attempt to understand textiles as fundamental elements of the representation and the construction of the space.
