Resumen de Aportación sobre los parámetros reproductores de la Cerceta pardilla, Marmaronetta angustirrostris, en la Albufera de Mallorca (islas Baleares)

Carlos Herrero, Pere Vicens Siquier

  • Objective: to analyse the reproductive parameters of the marbled duck Marmaronetta angustirrostris within the Balearics.

Locality: the data collected derives from s’Albufera de Mallorca Natural Park, the principal Balearic wetland.

Methods: analysis of the accumulated documentation in the park archives on the breeding biology of the marbled duck. The records have been summarised statistically and compared with corresponding information from the Iberian peninsula.

Results: the data obtained suggest a difference between the Balearic marbled duck population compared with the peninsula, in the form of a shorter breeding period and lower brood size for the individuals established at s’Albufera de Mallorca.

The Muro water purification plant has been the principal point of breeding for the species within the protected area although larger brood sizes have been observed in more natural areas of the park.

Conclusions: the results suggest that the determining factors are the non homogenous food resources between naturalized and artificial micro-habitats and the summer desiccation of the micro-hábitats normally occupied by the species
