  • "Nabaltec Asia Pacific is only a distribution company," Gerhard Witzany, a member of the Nabaltec board, told IM. The establishment of the new company will solidify Nabaltec's existing export pattern, Witzany said, but added that the company believes Asia's market is not yet developed enough to support a local production facility.

    "It makes no sense right now. There is still too much going on. It has to settle," Johannes Heckmann, another member of Nabaltec's board, told IM. "We are at the high end of the quality spectrum and a lot of things, in China especially, are still commoditised. We are not competing with them. We'd rather follow a model right now to backfire from Germany into Asia, build up a stock, build a warehouse and distribute it out of the warehouse," he explained.

    Nabaltec has two divisions - functional fillers and technical ceramics. The fillers arm produces 90-100,000 tpa fine precipitated hydrate and around 40,000 tpa ground hydrate in Schwandorf. Its Nashtec joint venture (JV) in Corpus Christi, US has a further 25,000 tpa fine precipitated hydrate capacity, which it is in the
