  • Resumen
    • In its third quarter operations review published in mid-October, the miner said it produced 115,000 tonnes borates in Q3, bringing the company's year-to-date output to 369,000 tonnes, a 4% drop from the 385,000 tonnes produced by the same point in 2014.

TiO[subscript]2 output of 243,000 tonnes took Rio's production for the period to 866,000 tonnes, a 23% drop-off on the first nine months of 2014, when 1.13m tonnes were produced. This is in line with revised guidance issued at the end of July, when the company said it would cut its TiO[subscript]2 feedstock volumes this year from 1.4m tonnes to 1.3m tonnes, to align its activities with weak market demand.

"The PFS update has confirmed that the Thunderbird project is a strategic, high margin, zircon-rich asset, located in one of the world's most stable mining jurisdictions," said Bruce McQuitty, Sheffield's managing director.
