Resumen de Industry bodies back US soda ash act

Myles McCormick

  • The Glass Packing Institute noted in its submission that soda ash is a key ingredient used daily in the country's 46 container glass plants. Union Pacific said that it directly serves the world's largest natural soda ash reserve near Green River, Wyoming, noting that 150 of their employees rely either directly or indirectly on the rail transportation of soda ash products for their livelihoods.

US soda ash is produced from naturally occurring trona, mined in southwestern Wyoming, and lake brine from Trona, California. The industry produced 12.9m s.tons (11.7m tonnes) soda ash in 2014 with a total value of $1.8bn, according to the Industrial Minerals Association of North America (IMA-NA).
