Género a-islado: una re-lectura del territorio desde las prácticas cotidianas

    Las islas Galápagos como territorio a-islado a 928 km de la costa continental ecuatoriana privilegian en su relato al 96,7% de su superficie declarada como área natural protegida. Los grupos de poder que representan al turismo y a la conservación construyen la imagen y el imaginario de las islas desde lo lejano y virtual, re-produciendo a la sociedad global un “único relato” en dónde prima lo endémico de su flora y fauna. El peligro de este relato se asemeja a su condición geográfica, es decir el territorio se visibiliza únicamente desde su condición de “Patrimonio natural” desconociendo a sus 25.124 habitantes y por lo tanto al patrimonio cultural existente.

    Los grados de visibilidad encubren al 3,3% de la superficie total de las islas correspondiente al territorio urbanizado y a las zonas de cultivo, en dónde quienes habitan lo hacen desde la hibridación cultural resultado de sus identidades compuestas; todas y todos re-construyen sus hábitos (vestimenta y costumbres) y habitaciones desde lo conocido de sus diversas geolocalizaciones para relocalizarse en el contexto isleño. Desde el velo que encubre a la sociedad galapagueña, visibilizamos a través del internet al género en la imagen de una tortuga alejándolo de su condición de constructo social. Así la problemática de género se oculta y a la vez se re-produce en un sistema patriarcal impuesto y aceptado socialmente como natural, que tiene matices marcadas por la desigualdad, la violencia y el acceso no igualitario a los bienes urbanos.

    El acto de develar nos permitirá otorgar la categoría de visible a lo invisible, como una alternativa de política para la gestión del territorio desde la dialéctica de las infraestructuras y el cuerpo. Incorporando en el discurso oficial estrategias de resistencia desde lo cotidiano de las 12.103 mujeres que habitan las islas.

    The Galapagos Islands as physical space (7.995,40 square km) privilege in their descriptive story to the 96,7% of its surface, declared as protected area. The imaginary of this territory isolated 928 km from the ecuadorian continental coast, builds its visibility from the distant and virtual, making invisible every particle that will take the islands apart from their condition of “World Heritage” (UNESCO, 1978) reproducing an imaginary and therefore a descriptive story of the territory full of absences and oversights.

    In order to reveal the invisibility of the islands we turn to virtual media that transmit an imaginary/story to the global society which it’s built from the endemic of its flora and fauna, being tourism and conservation who exercise dominion over this space. The invisible is hidden under the veils of the visible, so removing the first veil that hides the 3.3% of the territory, we find ourselves with city-ports as physical space for the 25.124 people that inhabit the islands since the cultural hybridization as a result of their compound identities; all of them rebuilding their habits (dressing and traditions) and accommodations from what they know from their diverse locations in order to relocate in the island context. On the internet the next veil hides “gender” as a social construct reflected on the image of a turtle. This is how the issues within gender are hidden and at the same time are being reproduced in a patriarchal system that has being socially imposed and accepted as natural, with shades marked with inequality, violence, and unequal access to urban space.

    The act of revealing will allow us to give the feature of visible to the invisible, as an alternative of politics for land management from the dialectic of infrastructure and body. Incorporating in the official agenda strategies for resistance within the daily routine of the 12.103 women that inhabit the islands.
