The medieval town of Vairano Patenora: Recovery and seismic improvement methodologies as defined by the directives of new Italian seismic legislation

  • The introduced study is inserted within a program of retraining in action, and it is finalized to the recovery of the Ancient Suburb of Vairano Patenora, that results completely abandoned to the actual state to the borders of the modern village. Departing from a historical and urbanistic close examination of the territory, this work has deepened with particular attention the technological and typological analysis of the building fabrics, the individualization of the characteristic architectural aspects of the suburb, the study of the materials and of the constructive techniques, the editing of cards of evaluation of the technological indicators, of the disarrangement and of the vulnerability of the different buildings of the suburb. The search concludes it with an hypothesis of project for the recovery and the refunctionalisation of the Norman Fortress and three housing unities, with the proposal of intervention for the recovery of the functional fitness of the structures and the analytical verification of the behaviour of the buildings under the action of seismic strengths, according to the normative in force.
