The La Segua wetland is located in the lower basin of the Chone and Carrizal rivers. It is the habitat of many species, many of which are threatened by hunting, fishing and agriculture, the latter in emerged lands, because even when the wetland is permanent, surface water is reduced in the dry season, leaving areas where agricultural activities are then carried out. The objective of this work was to study the wetland from the ecogeographic point of view using of geographic information system technologies. Specifically, the multivariate technique of unsupervised classification was applied to three Landsat satellite images of the TM and ETM sensors of 2006 and 2015 with which the different types of coverage were obtained. The information collected was complemented with field research supported by informal in-depth interviews with key informants in six production units and bibliographic source queries. It was found that the wetland presents complex problems related to poor water quality through eutrophication and use of agrochemicals, soil contamination, sedimentation, water body size reduction, and changes in biodiversity, especially in species of Ichthyofauna.
