The author examines the theory of loop quantum gravity (loop gravity), which presents an alternative to the big bang theory of universal creation. The history of loop gravity is examined, from the ways in which Albert Einstein's perception of spacetime influenced the theory to its modern applications in quantum mechanics. Also discussed is how concepts such as quantum-gravitational change and thermodynamics influence the theory.
