  • Resumen
    • Men may present to many health settings with symptoms or signs for which sexually transmitted infections are included in the differential diagnosis. It is important for healthcare professionals to be able to explore these symptoms and perform an appropriate examination in a sensitive and non-judgemental manner. Good communication skills are particularly important to ensure all relevant aspects of the history are covered, especially outside of sexual health clinics where patients may not be expecting to be asked intimate questions. Here we cover the principles of a sexual health consultation, which can be used in any healthcare setting. The investigation and management of specific conditions is covered elsewhere, and UK national guidelines can be found on the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) website.
