The interest in ancient Egyptian started a very long time ago in Brazil, by the aim of the portuguese royal family that ruled the country during four centuries. In 1824 D. Pedro I acquired the first Brazilian collection of Egyptian antiquities. The fact must cont as one of the most significant early steps of the relationship of Brazil with ancient Egypt. This collection of Egyptian artifacts is housed at the National Museum in Rio de Janeiro and it is considered the oldest and the most important in South America. His son, D. Pedro II was called in Brazil the "philosopher king". He stimulated erudiction and egyptology in his important public country.

O interesse pelo antigo Egito iniciou há muito tempo no Brasil, pela iniciativa da família real portuguesa, que governou o país durante quatro séculos. Em 1824, D. Pedro I adquiriu a primeira coleção brasileira de antigüidades egípcias. O fato pode ser considerado como o mais significativo dos primeiros passos no relacionamento entre o Brasil com o antigo Egito. Essa coleção de objetos egípcios encontra-se no Museu Nacional no Rio de Janeiro e é considerada como a mais antiga e importante na América do Sul. Seu filho D. Pedro II foi chamado no Brasil o "Rei filósofo". Este estimulou erudição e egiptologia neste país.
