Resumen de Arquitectura al margen de la novedad neoclásica: el proceso reconstructor de la iglesia de San Pedro en Güímar (1776-1834)

El inmueble que fue consagrado en 1802 como parroquia matriz de Güímar constituye un testimonio de interés para comprender la variedad de registros que manifestó la arquitectura canaria a finales del siglo XVIII, es decir, un periodo abierto al cambio por la confrontación de dos tendencias opuestas: la renovación neoclásica y el continuismo que trajo consigo recurrir a soluciones mudejarizantes sin variar sus modos edificatorios. Este trabajo analiza dicha disyuntiva en todo lo relativo a la fábrica de San Pedro, poniendo un énfasis especial en las circunstancias que explican su planeamiento, el desarrollo constructivo a partir de documentación con diverso origen y el ornato posterior a través de bienes que conviene reivindicar por su alta significación estética

The building consecrated in 1802 as mother parish of Güímar offers interesting evidence of the variety of styles displayed by Canarian architecture in the late eighteenth century, a period open to changes on account of the confrontation of two opposite trends:
neoclassical renewal on the one hand, and on the other a more conservative trend that incorporated Mudejar stylistic elements. This paper analyses the choices made in all matters relating to the building of Saint Peter, with special emphasis on the circumstances behind its planning, the building process and the ornamentation which followed, with furniture whose aesthetic value deserves greater attention.
