Resumen de El proyecto chavista: entre el viejo y el nuevo populismo

En atención a los rasgos que, teóricamente, identifican tanto a los populismos históricos como a los de última generación, conocidos como neopopulismos, el artículo examina el gobierno de Hugo Chávez con el afán de compararlo con ambas modalidades. La conclusión es que, a pesar de su signo militarista, por el que no se distinguieron precisamente los viejos populismos, el proyecto chavista repite en gran medida las características de aquellos, sin dejar de reproducir parte de la fisonomía que distingue a las expresiones más recientes de gobiernos y movimientos de este corte en América Latina.

This paper highlights the characteristics that identify traditional historical populisms, as well as those of the newest generation, known as neo-populisms, and analyses the administration of Hugo Chávez in order to make a comparison with both kinds of regimes. It concludes that despite its militaristic tendencies, which do not constitute a trait that characterized old populisms, Chávez’s project for the most part repeats the same attributes as those regimes, and also shares some of the same features that distinguish the most recent populist governments and movements in Latin America.
