  Em busca das raízes da crise ecológica em curso, este artigo lança luz sobre transformações no modo como o mundo natural foi concebido ao longo da história, destacando, brevemente, três estágios: “criação”, na Era Medieval; “natureza”, no início da história moderna; “depósito de matérias-primas”, no capitalismo tardio. Argumenta-se que mudanças na concepção do mundo natural tem relação com o declínio do pensamento, por conta do crescente papel desempenhado pelo raciocínio técnico. Para oferecer oposição a essa tendência, os autores propõem a reintegração da teologia ao escopo do pensamento moderno, enfatizando a importância de noções como mistério e dádiva para a compreensão do mundo no qual vivemos

  Searching for the roots of the current ecological crisis, this article looks at transformations in the way the natural world was conceived throughout history, briefly highlighting three stages: “creation”, in medieval times; “nature”, at the beginning of modern history; “raw material deposit”, in late capitalism. It is argued that changes in the conception of the natural world are related to the decline of thinking, owing to the growing role played by technical reasoning. To oppose this trend, the authors propose the reintegration of theology within the scope of modern thought, emphasizing the importance of notions such as mystery and gift in the comprehension of the world in which we live.
