Resumen de El Cuerpo de Ingenieros Militares y la Real Junta de Fomento de la isla de Cuba. Obras públicas entre 1832 y 1854

    Con este trabajo se pretende abordar la tarea desempeñada por los ingenieros del ejército en las obras públicas de la isla de Cuba como cuerpo facultativo y asistente de la Real Junta de Fomento, corporación encargada entre los años de 1832 y 1854 de articular las infraestructuras y medios necesarios para la promoción de la agricultura y el comercio. Para ello estudiaremos la particularidad de esta labor en el contexto de las atribuciones del Cuerpo de Ingenieros Militares en España, e igualmente veremos, con ejemplos documentales, de qué manera se organizó esta Junta y cómo los ingenieros se integraron en ella, para finalmente tratar las obras más destacadas, producto de esta estrecha colaboración.

    In this article we will study the task executed by the Spanish military engineers in public works in the island of Cuba. These engineers worked in Cuba as a specialized body in infrastructures and civil buildings, along with the Real Junta de Fomento, the responsible institution for the promotion and development of agriculture and commerce in the island between 1832 and 1854. To that end, we will analyse the particular work tackled by these engineers in the context of their functions in Spain, and how these ones took part in the organization of the Junta. Finally the most important works undertaken by both institutions will be studied.
