Aunque las Sagradas Escrituras de las tres principales religiones monoteístas (Judaísmo, Cristianismo e Islam) y de otras confesiones religiosas apenas se ocupan de las conductas homosexuales, históricamente, algunos pasajes de aquellos textos han sido objeto de una gran controversia cuando se interpretaron de forma literal para estigmatizar las relaciones consentidas entre personas del mismo sexo –considerándolas aberrantes, reprobables o, simplemente, contrarias a la naturaleza o al orden establecido por la doctrina de cada creencia– y justificar que esos comportamientos se merecían una condena, incluso la muerte. Este artículo analiza las Escrituras para comprobar que si el enfoque de la literalidad se cambia por una interpretación histórico-crítica, los mismos pasajes van a enfatizar el desarrollo de unos valores mucho más profundos basados en el amor, el respeto, la igualdad y la responsabilidad de un ser humano hacia otro; castigando en realidad los abusos, el vicio y la lujuria, no las relaciones homosexuales.

Although the Holy Scriptures of the three major monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) and of other faiths just dealing with homosexual behavior, historically, some passages from those texts have been the subject of much controversy when interpreted literally to stigmatize relationships between consenting same-sex -considering aberrant, reprehensible or simply contrary to nature or to the order established by the doctrine of every belief- and justify such behavior deserved a sentence, even death. This article examines the Scriptures to see if the literal approach is changed by historical-critical method, the same passages will emphasize the development of much deeper values based on love, respect, equality and responsibility of a human being to another; actually punishing abuses, vice and lust, not homosexual relations.
