RCVS disciplinary committee: Vets suspended from the RCVS Register for lying about a fatal operation

    • THE RCVS Disciplinary Committee has directed that two veterinary surgeons should be suspended from the Register after finding that they had lied to clients and the RCVS about the circumstances of a castration procedure that led to the death of a dog.

      At a hearing on September 21 and 22, the Disciplinary Committee heard a case against Mpho Donald Lesolle and Georgi Cheshmedzhiev relating to the procedure, which was carried out in August 2013 at a veterinary practice in Stafford, where Mr Lesolle was practice principal and Mr Cheshmedzhiev was his assistant.

      The operation was undertaken by Mr Cheshmedzhiev. The RCVS reports that Mr Lesolle did not directly supervise the procedure, telling the committee that he was confident that Mr Cheshmedzhiev could carry out the castration and that he had been permitted to do so on previous occasions. The committee also heard that, following the operation, a nursing assistant noticed blood on the dog's bedding and that it had a swollen scrotum. Mr Lesolle performed a scrotal ablation on the dog, which was discharged later that day. However, it died overnight a day after discharge and an independent postmortem examination …
