This paper presents a critical analysis of Wittgenstein's concept of will in the Tractatus and the Notebooks.
First, I argue that the concept of will in the Tractatus leads to some problems concerning the link between metaphysics, ethics and psychology. But, secondly, I want to show that the problem of the will is developed at length in the Notebooks, where the influence of Schopenhauers philosophy is quite strong. Finally, the aim of the paper is to argue for the continuity of Wittgensteins conception of will and action, as long as the Philosophical Investigations seem to assume some statements made in the Notebooks.
