    El presente artículo se propone analizar la oposición política que el partido liberal santandereano ejerció en contra del gobierno conservador de Mariano Ospina Pérez desde las páginas del diario Vanguardia Liberal en el contexto de las elecciones de 1949.  Esta oposición se caracterizó no solo por la fuerza con que se criticó las acciones del gobierno, sino por el uso de expresiones cargadas de odios de vieja data y en general de todos los aspectos que las diferencias ideológicas conllevan.  No cabe duda de que en Santander Vanguardia Liberal lideró la oposición política al partido conservador y que con sus editoriales quiso influir en el devenir político de su región tanto como en el de la nación.  El análisis ha sido organizado en tres partes.  En la primera, se reconstruye la imagen que de su antagonista político creó el liberalismo santandereano; en la segunda, se analiza la imagen que de sí mismos crearon los liberales; mientras que en la última se examina la manera en que fue percibida la acción opositora por parte del diario bumangués.

    This article intends to analyze the political opposition that the liberal party from Santander exerted against the Conservative Government of Mariano Ospina Pérez from the Vanguardia Liberal newspaper pages. All this in the context of the 1949 elections. This opposition was characterized not only by the force with which the Government’s actions were criticized, but also by the use of loaded expressions of longstanding hatreds and, in general all the aspects that the ideological differences involve. There is no doubt that in Santander, Vanguardia Liberal led the political opposition to the conservativeparty and with its publishers it wanted to influence, both the region’s political future as well as the national. The analysis is organized in three parts. The first part reconstructs the image of the political antagonist created by the Santandereano liberalism; the second part is analyzing the image created by the liberals themself; while the last part looks at the way in which the opposition action was perceived by the bumangues’ newspaper.
